Hemp for Victory's Statement on the DEA Marijuana Hearing Delay Issued by the ALJ. January 15, 2025
Today, Robert Head, Chair of Hemp for Victory and a U.S. Army veteran (Infantryman, Iraq 2002-2007, Texas A&M graduate), addresses the recent decision by the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) to delay the hearing on rescheduling marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III. This delay follows motions by Hemp for Victory and Village Farms regarding the DEA's failure to comply with court orders and its inability to justify its stance on marijuana regulation.
Mr. Head stated:
"The delay of these hearings is a stark reflection of the DEA's disconnect from the will of the American public. Thirty-eight states have now legalized medical marijuana, underscoring a clear demand for reform. Veterans, in particular, are turning to cannabis at rates higher than the general population to manage the aftermath of service, where traditional pharmaceuticals have fallen short. The DEA's approach, including presenting evidence on outdated formats like CDs, missing judicial deadlines, collaborating with groups that are against this rescheduling hearing and, worst of all, being a proponent of the rule while the DEA evidence says the opposite. Now its on record for the new administration to evaluate. The American people deserve better than this.”
We urge the new administration to champion the veteran community by facilitating marijuana's rescheduling to at least Schedule III. This would not only open avenues for essential research but also ensure continued access to this vital plant for those who need it most."
About Hemp for Victory:
Hemp for Victory is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enlightening and advocating for the use of cannabis as a natural solution for veterans facing mental and physical health challenges resulting from their service. Through educational talks, community discussions, and collaboration with veterans, leaders, and industry stakeholders, we strive to foster understanding and acceptance of cannabis as a therapeutic option.
Our Board of Directors has curated a wide selection of articles that help educate, open the dialogue, and move the conversation forward about our veterans’ use of cannabis as a natural way to manage their mental and physical challenges as a result of their service. If you have an article you'd like for us to add to the list, please contact us!
Veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, many of whom use cannabis for relief, have become key advocates for legalization, ironically challenging the anti-cannabis stance of the same politicians who supported these wars. Their influence has driven the growth of both legal and illegal cannabis markets, highlighting the long-term consequences of political decisions. This shift underscores how veterans' needs and advocacy are reshaping the cannabis landscape in the United States.
